Remembering Robert M. "Sully" Sullivan
September 27, 1959 - February 25, 2016
Robert M. “Sully” Sullivan, 56, died on February 25, 2016, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Sully was born to Larry and Carol Sullivan, in Saint Louis, Missouri on September 27, 1959. He grew up in Kansas City and eventually moved to the Houston area, graduating from Eisenhower High School in 1977. Sully married his best friend, Barbara June Berry, on December 17, 1983. He raised his son, Michael Andrew Sullivan, with patience, discipline and humility.
After getting married, Sully spent time in the restaurant business and eventually opened Sully’s Restaurant. A lifelong entrepreneur at heart, he worked with persistence, lead with integrity, and eventually started Houston Appraisal Team and worked for over 20 years as a real estate appraiser in the greater Houston area. His hard work and dedication in the appraisal industry allowed him to build the family home on the shores of Lake Conroe, which always had an open-door policy. True to his character, nobody was a stranger. The “family” home was everyone’s home when Sully was there.
Sully was a servant, patriot and excellent father and loyal husband. He was slow to speak and quick to listen. When he saw a need or desire, he thoughtfully met that need without fanfare. He provided generously for his family and friends, and knew well how to make others laugh and feel loved. He was a mentor and role model to many and never failed to include or serve those that God put in his path. Two days before he passed, he sent an email out to everyone on his regular recipients list and encouraged friends and family to not pray for him, but rather pray for those instead who do not know the Lord. This was his personality.
He served for years in the Crossroads Baptist worship team, the Patriot Guard Riders and many other local civic and law-enforcement assistance groups, and sought to grow those organizations as often as he could. In addition to hanging out at the lake and sharing all that he had with friends, Sully enjoyed travelling to the mountains and taking trips to the Caribbean. Scuba diving, snorkeling, hiking and shooting were his favorite hobbies. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate his life and find peace knowing he is with Jesus.
Sully is survived by his wife, Barbara; his son and daughter-in-law Andrew and Katrina Sullivan of Fort Worth; niece April Kenworthy and husband Brian, and their daughter Allison O’Connell of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; his father and stepmother Larry and Katherine Sullivan; his mother Carol Sullivan; his brother and sister-in-law Joey and Dana Sullivan; his sister and brother-in-law Deborah and Carlos Gutierrez; and also, mother-in-law Rosie Berry, brothers and sisters-in-law Roger and Victoria Berry, and Lyndel and Brenda Berry; many nieces and nephews, and a great host of loyal friends. He is preceded in death by his father-in-law Norwood Abner “Popo” Berry and dear friend Bob McKnight.
A celebration of his life will be held at Crossroads Baptist Church in The Woodlands, TX on Sunday February 28, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. with visitation at 1 p.m.
